 Hi - I am Stephanie Burns, and my dog is "Tykie" who I have loved & cared for the past 24 years.
When I adopted "Tykie" I tried feeding him commercial pet foods & his digestion did not agree with him, so I fed him whatever I ate - which is vegetarian food - rice, beans, tofu, veggies, etc.
When I was in my 20's, I was overweight, always sick, feeling like I had no energy and eating meat & carbs. Sugary foods & fast foods were aging me quickly.
After many doctor visits & medication I realized there was no alternative but to change my eating habits. I read lots of books on health & diet and became quite interested in vegetarianism and shopped at food cooperatives in Ann Arbor & Detroit. I bought everything in bulk, from grains to seeds, to veggies and tofu, and acquired some wonderful recipes in cookbooks and have eaten this way ever since.
All my health problems went away, I lost weight, gained tremendous energy & never needed to visit the doctor.
I am now 46 years old and I feel wonderful. I thought if this diet can work for me, then why can't it work for my dog, as well?
 I am certain that by feeding "Tykie" a vegetarian diet has greatly enhanced his health & has prevented him from acquiring any major health problems. "Tykie" is 24 years old (165 in dog years) and takes NO medication and goes for several walks daily, plays with other pets and is very alert & moves along will on his own. He is deaf and has some arthritis, but the living food diet, wheatgrass & bee pollen, has especially helped him with this since these ingredients rebuild the joint tissue.
